Advice & Guides
Storage space is a common issue in all bedrooms, with chest of drawers and wardrobes competing for space. Finding storage in your bedroom is usually a task not undertaken lightly, which is why it’s always a good idea to make use of the space under your bed for storage. An underbed drawer can provide storage in a pinch, but aside from not offering that much storage, they also look fairly unsightly. Investing in a bed frame with additional storage options is a great way to combine functionality with aesthetics. Check out the Bed Shop Halifax's complete guide to storage beds below!
In an ottoman style bed, the base of the bed is hollow, accessed through lifting the base of the bed.
Ottoman beds can provide a significant volume of storage space for the larger, heavier, and more cumbersome items in your bedroom. Lifting the bed base with mattress on top is a heavy task, and while hydraulic springs lighten the load, this bed is more suited to adults. This style of bed is also suitable when floor space is tight, as you only need to lift up rather than out.
A divan bed base offers storage with the option of drawers or a slide store feature. The placement of the drawers can be specified to take into account the location of the bed in the bedroom. For example, where space or other furniture may hinder the access or opening of drawers.
Divan bed drawers are designed to be suitable for lightweight items, such as bedding and clothing. Heavier items may lead to the base of the drawer becoming distorted or bent out of shape.
A TV bed is a unique take on storage beds. TV beds provide storage at the foot of the bed in which a TV can be stored and raised when needed. Using one of these beds means you don’t need a seperate unit to accomodate the TV, therby saving on floor space. A TV bed also makes your bedroom a more relaxing and tidier space in the evenings, as the screen is only visible when required.
Cabin beds sit at a medium height and often have a range of storage solutions underneath, such as drawers and shelving. Perfect for younger children, a cabin bed frees up floor space, providing endless opportunities for storage or play.
A high sleeper bed, sometimes called a loft bed, sits closer to the ceiling of the room, providing ample space underneath. High sleeper beds often come with a variety of options, including desks, sofas or wardrobes. As opposed to cabin beds, a high sleeper bed is more suited to older children.
The amount of storage space you gain depends on the bed you purchase, but it can generally be assumed that the space beneath the mattress will be gained. Ottoman beds provide the most storage, as the entire hollow space can be accessed, however most divan drawers account for the majority of the space. Cabin beds and high sleeper beds are uniquely advantageous as they provide vertical space as well as horizontal. The higher sleeping point allows for shelves and stacked storage underneath, so not only do you gain floor space, you also gain height.
Our storage beds are available in a wide range of sizes, suitable for all ages. Each storage system on each bad varies dependent on the size of the frame. For example, ottoman bed frames provide additional storage without any extra space needed, as the frame lifts within the confines of the bed base. Divan drawers require some additional space in a radius around the bed, with the drawer size equal to the size of the bed, extending beyond the bed frame.
